• Belly Fat and Sugar
Tuesday, December 4, 2012
Too much sugar = excess carbs = a lightning-fast rise in insulin
levels = MASSIVE FAT STORAGE. Not to mention the other health
problems it causes you...
In addition to adding extra BellyFat, here are 9 things the piling
sugar is doing to your health RIGHT NOW:
1. A chilling rise in blood sugar levels makes your body produce
more insulin. Over time, your body becomes resistant to insulin,
putting you at risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
2. Sugar slaughters the growth hormones that keep you healthy and
youthful.
3. Sugar feeds cancers, allowing them to grow and crush out
healthy cells.
4. Sugar increases cholesterol and can cause high blood pressure
and cardiovascular disease.
5. Sugar causes food allergies and can contribute to eczema.
6. Sugar can cause drowsiness and lack of energy.
7. Sugar can alter your DNA's structure.
8. Sugar lowers your immune system so you're less able to fight
bacterial infections. Sugar also feeds yeast growth and throws
off your pH levels.
9. Sugar can damage eyesight and contribute to osteoporosis.

• Benefits of Organic Celery
Wednesday, November 28, 2012
Celery Sports Awesome Brain Benefits,
And Shrinks Cancer Too
Crunch, crunch...
It's the proverbial low-cal snack also the taken-for-granted turkey stuffing ingredient and predictable garnish in a Bloody Mary. But don't underestimate this little food gem.
Not only is it a dieter's delight It's also a potent cancer fighter. And this little-appreciated edible can help you remember important stuff, like where you parked your car at the airport, or your wedding anniversary. Read on to discover how much this humble food can do for your health. I was shocked to learn about all the benefits. I always thought it was a bland filler.
Most of us don't know much about celery, except that it has "practically no calories", is "mostly water", and is "stringy". But there's a lot more to it than that. . .
Induces cancer cell ceath and stops cancer growth
Celery has several compounds that make it a powerful cancer fighter.
Both celery and one of its relatives, parsley, contain the cancer-fighting bioflavonoid called apigenin, which has been studied in relation to breast and ovarian cancers.
A new University of Missouri study found that apigenin shrank a type of breast cancer that's stimulated by progestin, a synthetic hormone often given to menopausal women.
This study looked at certain mice implanted with a deadly, fast-growing human breast cancer which were later treated with a progestin similar to those given to post-menopausal women. There was also a control group which did not get progestin.
One part of the progestin group received apigenin, the others did not.
The tumors shrank in the apigenin treated mice, and their breast cancer cell growth dropped to the levels of the control group (the ones with no progestin).
The study co-author, Salman Hyder, noted that apigenin slowed the cancer in three ways:
Inducing cell death
Inhibiting cell proliferation
Reducing expression of a gene associated with cancer growth.
In other words, tumors grew in the mice not given apigenin. But with apigenin the tumors shrank, and weren't as large to begin with.
Also, blood vessels that feed cancer cells also had smaller diameters in apigenin-treated mice compared with untreated ones resulting in restricted nutrient flow to tumors, potentially starving the cancer and limiting its ability to spread.
They're still studying whether this holds true for humans as well as mice.
Meanwhile another study, this one at Rutgers University, found other anti-cancer compounds in celery called acetylenics which can actually stop tumor cells from growing. They suggest that drinking raw celery juice can prevent free radicals from harming your cells, which can stop cancer from developing in your stomach and colon.
So promising, you'd think the pharmaceutical companies would be all over this. But it'll probably be hard to even get funding for more research, because they can't profit from a compound so easily extracted from a plant. But you can
Boosts your white blood cells
Celery contains another compound, a phytochemical known as coumarin. Studies on coumarins show they're effective for cancer prevention, and are capable of enhancing the immune activities of certain lines of white blood cells.
In a study done at Tokyo Denki University, scientists examined 21 coumarins for their anti-proliferative activity towards these kinds of cancers:
Lung carcinoma
Melanin pigment producing mouse melanoma
Human T-cell leukemia
Human gastric cancer which had metastasized to the liver
But celery bestows other benefits on you too
It may be the best brain food in your fridge
As you age, your brain tends to overreact to every slight provocation by spitting out clouds of inflammatory compounds linked to memory lapses, fuzzy thinking, and brain fatigue. Celery protects your brain from these problems by telling the hyperactive immune cells to settle down.
This has implications for diseases like Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis.1 Inflammation is a factor in cognitive and behavioral impairments associated with aging.
A new study published in the Journal of Nutrition evaluated luteolin, a plant flavonoid known to squelch inflammatory responses outside the central nervous system.2
This study showed that brain cells exposed to luteolin had a significantly lowered inflammatory response. Apparently luteolin shuts down production of interleuin-6 (IL-6), a key cytokine in the inflammatory pathway, by a staggering 90 percent! Said principal investigator Rodney Johnson, "This was just about as potent an inhibition as anything we had seen previously."3
Celery benefits in you in many other ways
Who ever knew celery was so nutrient-dense and had so many health benefits for cancer and so much more? Bet you never thought a watery "diet" food could offer so much.
This long, thin, green vegetable is actually part of the carrot family, along with parsnip, fennel, and parsley.
Celery's outer stalks, also called ribs, surround its tender, mildly flavored innermost ribs, the celery heart. It also has leaves which are often mistakenly discarded as "inedible". But nothing could be farther from the truth, as celery's leaves contain its highest concentration of nutrients.
Folklore from many cultures considers it an aphrodisiac. There's not much scientific evidence of that. But never mind that, it's loaded with other benefits.
Celery is chock full of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K (good for blood and bones), vitamin C (an immune booster), amino acids, essential fatty acids, folate, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, zinc, vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and E plus more.
It can impact you in these far-reaching ways4:
Lowers blood pressure and tones your vascular system. Magnesium deficiency is known to affect your blood pressure. Celery is packed with magnesium, which can relax the muscle cells in your arterial walls. This dilates your arteries, allowing your blood more room to flow freely.
Healthy flexible joints. Celery's anti-inflammatory attributes help reduce joint pain and swelling, which means it can help those suffering from arthritis, rheumatism, and gout. It also contains a diuretic that can help remove uric acid crystals from your joints.
Asthma. Celery's high vitamin C levels can help alleviate asthmatic conditions.
Colds/Flu. Vitamin C also helps prevent viral illnesses.
Insomnia. Sleeplessness can wreak havoc on your health. For a good night's sleep, drink a glass of freshly-juiced celery with one tablespoon of honey before bedtime. This can help you relax into a restful sleep. Plus, its medicinal properties can work while you sleep.
Kidney stones/gall stones. Celery juice can help by clearing the toxins that form these painful stones. Since celery juice is a diuretic, it can help with passing the stone. If you're prone to stones, a daily glass of celery juice can help keep them away.
Possible remedy for migraines, based on celery's coumarin activity.
Aids digestion and alleviates bowel problems.
Lowers cholesterol.
Rebuilds blood cells.
Builds up your immune system.
Regulates body temperature.
Terrific anti-inflammatory.
Supports liver as a potent detoxifier.
May help protect women from urinary tract infections.
To enjoy these benefits, juice a bunch of celery with a fresh orange for flavor, and drink this juice for 30 days. Or try it juiced with a tomato and add some fresh onion and garlic to increase its medicinal impact.
If you don't care for the taste of celery but want its benefits, load it up with organic nut butter spread. The celery will provide the crunch, but the nut butter taste will prevail.
Two important cautions
Celery is an amazing food with a plethora of nutrients straight from nature. You can hardly go wrong. Even if you're not on a "diet".
And yet, here are two important cautions:
First, lighten up on celery seeds during pregnancy. They contain volatile oils, flavonoids, coumarins, and linoleic acid which could cause uterine contractions... which you certainly don't want before the 39 or 40 week mark. This is a minor problem. I don't think you'll find seed in celery stalks.
Secondly, celery is one of the "Dirty Dozen"... According to the latest report from the Environmental Working Group, conventional celery is one of the worst types of produce to purchase. Its soft, absorbent skin makes it especially prone to soak up and retain pesticides. Testing revealed residual traces from a staggering 67 pesticides in conventional celery. Would you like a little celery with your pesticides? Not me. I buy organic celery.
Organic celery can be a terrific food to add to your daily anti-cancer eating plan. It's inexpensive, and you have to eat anyway, so bring some home today.
Naturally, eating it raw will give you the most bang for your buck.
Kindest regards,
Lee Euler, Publisher

• BPA Obesity
Friday, November 9, 2012
e / Weight Management / Common Chemical Linked to Childhood Obesity
Common Chemical Linked to Childhood Obesity
By now, most of us have heard of bisphenol-A, otherwise known as BPA. This common chemical compound found in hard plastics and in the linings of food and drink cans has been under a great deal of scrutiny over the past decade due to its link to several serious health problems. The list is actually quite extensive and alarming, and includes erectile dysfunction,1 cardiovascular disease and diabetes,2 problems with brain function and memory,3 breast cancer4 and asthma.5
And as if this chemical could not get any more dangerous, new research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that long-term exposure to BPA in children can greatly increase the risk of one of the biggest epidemics were facing as a nationobesity.6
Its no secret that children are particularly vulnerable to the effects of BPA. This is why the Food and Drug Administration recently banned its use in the production of plastic baby bottles and toddler sippy cups. But, even so, BPA exposure is nearly impossible to completely avoid. In fact, 92.6 percent of people ages six and over have detectable levels in their urine!7
The Obesity Link
In their study, researchers examined the link between body mass index and BPA concentrations in the urine of 2,838 children aged six to 19 years.
They divided the results into four groups (quartiles). After taking into account various factors such as race, age, caloric intake and television watching, researchers discovered that the first quartilethe children with the lowest urinary output of BPAalso had the lowest incidence of obesity (10.3 percent). Those in the second and third quartiles had a 20.1 percent and 19 percent rate of obesity, respectively. The fourth quartile, which included the children with the highest levels of BPA in their urine, had a 22.3 percent rate of obesity.
To put this in perspective, the kids in the third quartile had twice the odds for obesity, and those in the fourth quartile had 2.6 times higher odds for obesity, as compared to the kids in the first quartile.
After further analysis, researchers found this association to be most significant in white children and adolescents.
Reducing Your Exposure to BPA
Since BPA is so widespread, its close to impossible to avoid it completely. It may have been banned in baby products, but it still exists in many other plastic products and in the linings of canned goods and aluminum soda cans. Even so, there are a few steps you can take to limit your exposure to this harmful chemical:8
Choose BPA-free or non-plastic alternatives. When buying plastic products such as reusable water bottles and storage containers, make sure the product is labeled BPA-free. Or, better yet, opt for glass food storage containers, like the Pyrex brand, and stainless steel water bottles. (One caveat thoughstainless steel water bottles sometimes contain plastic liners, so be sure the bottle you choose does not.)
Avoid #7 plastics. Polycarbonate plastics with the #7 recycling code often contain BPA. The recycling codes with the numbers 1, 2 and 4 are your safest options if you do use plastic products.
Dont heat plastic in the microwave. Doing so could cause chemicals to leach into foods or beverages. Place your food on a plate or in a ceramic or glass bowl prior to heating.
Avoid or limit your consumption of canned food and beverages. The BPA that lines these containers often leaches into the food. If you do eat canned food, you should rinse the contents, if possible, prior to eating it to lessen the amount of BPA you ingest. Probably most disturbing is that ready-to-feed liquid infant formula that gets housed in metal cans appears to have high concentrations of BPA.8 If you use infant formula, choose a powdered variety that comes in #1 or #2 plastic containers. If you do need to use liquid formula, find types sold in glass or #1/#2 plastic containers.

• Prostate and Vit D

How to make prostate
cancer spread 82% faster
If youre a man, one of your biggest health concerns is how to avoid prostate cancer. So here is some good news. A new study is showing just how tight the relationship is between your vitamin D levels and your risk from prostate cancer.
According to the study, every time you take your vitamin D, you are appreciably decreasing your chance of getting prostate cancer. But thats not all. Many of us already have prostate cancer and dont know it. As I have told you before, a normal PSA reading does not mean you dont have it.
How to flush metals from your
body and make yourself
healthier and more youthful at
the same time!
No painful or uncomfortable treatments involved... just this simple remedy
Find Out What It Is Here
Again, there is good news. If you already have prostate cancer, taking the right amount of vitamin D can significantly slow it down to the point that it never becomes a problem. And this study shows why.
This study comes out of the Center for Cancer Research at Purdue University in Indiana. The researchers took mice and divided them into three groups. One group had a very low level of vitamin D3 in their diets - only 25 units. The second group had what would be considered a normal healthy amount of vitamin D - 200 units. And the third group received a lot more - 10,000 units. Then the researchers looked at the prostates in these mice to see if the different levels of vitamin D had an effect on their prostate cells.
The researchers specifically looked at two things. First, how fast the prostate cells were dividing. Cells that divide fast are more likely to develop into cancerous cells. The other thing they focused on was normal cell death, called apoptosis. Cells that show less apoptosis are more likely to develop into cancers as well. Heres what they found.
The blood levels of vitamin D went up corresponding to the amount of vitamin D the animals were eating. The ones with the low vitamin D diets had levels of 26 nmol/L. The ones on the normal amount of vitamin D had levels of 78 nmol/L. And the ones on the largest dose had levels of 237 nmol/L. (To convert nmol/L to ng/mL, just divide by 2.496.)
Compared to the group with the highest level of vitamin D, the prostate cells in the mice on the low vitamin D diet divided 82% faster. Their cells also were showing 29% less apoptosis. Both of these findings indicate an increased risk of developing cancer from taking low amounts of vitamin D, and a decreased risk when taking high amounts. They also indicate that prostate cancers are going to grow much more slowly in men taking higher levels of vitamin D.
So do something to decrease your prostate cancer risk thats easy and inexpensive. Get your doctor to check your vitamin D3 blood level. And make sure that youre taking enough to get your level over 60 ng/ml. Thats the level that you need to be at for maximum protection.

• Should I Get A Flu Shot?

Should You Get a Flu Shot?
by Julian Whitaker M.D. Filed Under: Immune Health Last Reviewed 09/25/2012
Learn why vitamin D, not a shot, is your best defense against flu
When October arrives, its time to get ready for winter, pick up some Halloween candy, and line up for flu shotsor so were told.
Given the hard sell from doctors and government agencies, you may think immunization is your only hope against a bad case of the flu. Nothing could be further from the truth.
While immunization may reduce your risk, its far from a sure thing. And flu shots certainly dont protect against the numerous other bugs that cause the majority of respiratory infections.
Vaccination Doesnt Prevent Pneumonia
Youve probably also been led to believe that influenza is deadly and that flu shots save lives. Although no one wants to deal with congestion, cough, fever, and other miseries of the flu, symptoms are usually short-lived and not particularly serious.
Far more worrisome are complications such as bacterial pneumonia, which causes most of the thousands of annual deaths that are chalked up to the flu. Flu shots are purported to reduce hospitalization by a third and cut deaths in half. But this notion has been shot down as well.
A study published in The Lancet found that flu shots do not reduce risk of pneumonia in people over age 65. In fact, during peak flu season, pneumonia rates were actually higher in vaccinated individuals. The researchers concluded that this lack of benefit means one of two things: Either influenza is not a primary cause of pneumonia, or the vaccine is ineffective.
Let me make it clear that this study involved people over 65 living on their own. Previous research suggests that flu shots may be advisable for frail older people in assisted living facilities.
But for most of usand that includes childrenthe current scientific research doesnt even come close to supporting the wildly overblown claims about the value of flu shots.
Defend Yourself With Vitamin D
This doesnt mean you should go through flu season unarmed. The most important step you can take is to increase your daily dose of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).
Vitamin D has profound effects on the immune system. Because sunlight stimulates its production in the body, vitamin D levels fall precipitously during the winter. Annual declines may well be the missing link in the seasonal nature of influenza.
Ask your doctor for a 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) test, or you can order a blood spot test kit that is easy to use and allows you to test your vitamin D levels at home. Take enough supplemental vitamin D3 to bring your blood level into the 5080 ng/mL range. My experience is that most adults need 2,0005,000 IU per day to reach this level.
According to another study published in 2009, vitamin D also has potential for treating flu. If you do get sick, you might consider increasing your daily dose to 50,000 IU for up to seven days.
Fears of toxicity are overblown. Vitamin D is perfectly safe at the daily dosage range listed above and, for short periods of time, in much larger doses (i.e., those recommended for treating flu). However, while high-dose vitamin D may be required to overcome deficiencies or treat illness, it should be taken only under the care of a physician.
Add Other Immune-Support Supplements
Theres a whole arsenal of other immune-support supplements which can help prevent andin many casestreat flu and other viral infections.
Taking a potent, antioxidant-rich multivitamin and mineral supplement every day offers protection, as do probiotics. Although these beneficial bacteria are best known for their effects on gastrointestinal health, theyre also a boon for the immune system.
In one study, children who took probiotic supplements daily for six months had significant reductions in fever, runny nose, and cough incidence and duration; antibiotic prescriptions; and days missed from school.
And if someone in your family or at work gets sick, add extra vitamin C (110 g per day in divided doses), echinacea, colostrum, and other immune boosters to your daily supplement regimen. The homeopathic flu remedy Oscillococcinum is also effective, but you need to use it at the first signs of flu symptoms. Take all supplements as directed on the product label.

Heart Attack & Water Something else I didn't know. I asked my doctor
why do people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my
cardiac doctor: Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body
when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower
body (legs and etc.) seeks level with the kidneys it is then that the
kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with
the last statement! I knew you need your minimum water to help flush
the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me.
Correct time to drink water. Very Important. From A Cardiac
Specialist! Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its
effectiveness on the body:
2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal
organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood
pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart
attack
*** I can also add to this... My physician told me that water at bed
time
will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are
seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie
Horse.

How To Rid Your Food Of Nutrients In One Minute Or Less
September 26, 2012 by Bryan Nash
PHOTOS.COM
Convenience comes with a price. Thats definitely the case with microwaves. If youre thinking of zapping your veggies, you may want to think again.
A study published in Bioeclectromagnetics in 2008 found that cooking asparagus in the microwave reduces the vitamins available.
In 2001, a study was published in the Journal of Nutrition which suggested that heating garlic in the microwave for one minute inactivates alliinase, an enzyme in garlic that fights cancer.
In 2003, an article in the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture showed that microwaving broccoli can remove as much as 97 percent of its antioxidants.
Microwaving may seem like the quickest and best option when preparing food. Although it may be the quickest, it is by no means the best. Not only do you lose essential nutrients when you choose to microwave your food, it also affects the taste and texture.
Instead of microwaving, try steaming.

Good Fats vs. Bad Fats
How many times have you been told that you need to stop eating steak and butter if you ever want to lose weight? Too many, right? Well, I've got fantastic news for you: That's not the case with the Sexy Forever ThreePhase WeightLoss Plan. So many of us have been trained to think that any fat is bad for you, but the fact is that your body needs fat for good cell health. The confusion arises because all fats are not created equal and some foods we've been told are bad for us, like butter, are actually just fine to eat in moderation. The key is not combining them with high glycemic foods, such as refined carbohydrates. Once you combine sugar, white flour, or highstarch foods with fat, all those fat calories have the potential to be stored as fat along with the sugar.
Here's a guide to what's good and what you need to avoid.
Watch out for trans fats. Found in partially hydrogenated oils, margarine, and shortening, these completely unnatural fats can clog your arteries and lead to heart disease. They're so bad, in fact, that many municipalities are trying to outlaw them.
Limit your omega6 fats. These oils from natural sources safflowers, sunflowers, corn, peanuts, and soybeans may sound good, but consumption of them needs to be balanced out by intake of the healthy omega3 fats. Otherwise, you risk developing a hard membrane around each cell, which can break and cause a cell to malfunction. Eventually, too many malfunctioning cells could lead to illness, like cancer or heart disease.
Load up on omega3 fats. You'll find superhealthy omega-3 fats in things like perilla oil, flaxseed oil, and fish oil. These will help keep your heart healthy and your cells soft and supple.
Enjoy animal fats in moderation. Butter and fat from meats, like pork and beef, have been demonized, but as long as you are consuming them with a lot of vegetables and isolating them from insulin (by not combining them with high glycemic foods) you will digest them with ease and metabolize them to be burned as fuel. Remember, we are controlling the insulin response. Meat and fats create no insulin response on their own. If you add sugar, white flour, rice, etc., now you will have a release of insulin which can lead to storing those fats as fat! The key is to enjoy real fats in moderation and minimize the insulin response.
How relieving is it to know that you don't need to punish yourself by cutting delicious fats out of your diet? The trick, as with any food, is knowing when to say when. Moderation is always key. After all, just because I'm allowed to eat butter doesn't mean I'm going to wolf down a whole stick of it all at once! Just you wait and see: Remove bad fats from your diet and make sure your body gets lots of omega3's, and you'll be seeing results in no time. Before you know it, you'll be well on your way to Sexy Fo

How Processed Foods Are Quietly Starving You Of Nutrition And Keeping You Fat
Underground Health Reporter | 0 Comments
Avoid the Dangers of Processed Foods and Restore the Nutrients in Your Body for Perfect Health
The secret to being fit FOREVER and what the food industry prays youll never discover
When you sit down to eat your next meal are you grabbing a colorful box and pulling out a frozen tray to microwave? If youre pressed for time, odds are youll reach for a meal that fills your need to eat quickly and get back to your activities.
Even if you are trying to mindfully eat a balanced diet, a frozen meal may seem like a good alternative to a drive-through meal. The picture on the box is enticing, the food looks delicious and the description sounds appealing
But whats actually happening when you eat this staple processed food is that even though you may feel full after your last bite. This meal with its poor ratios of nutrients to calories is causing your body to starve.
After youve finished your last bite, youve unknowingly starved your body of essential nutrients it needs today. And the cycle continues each and every day, despite getting enough calories, your body is fooled into thinking you are starving. So it protects you by storing fat, slowing down your metabolism, and making you hungrier.
The hormone responsible for these reactions is leptin. Its a master hormone that regulates your body weight.
When youre healthy your body doesnt think its starving leptin effectively curbs hunger, reduces sugar cravings, speeds up your metabolism, and signals your liver to burn fat.
But when your body thinks its starving, it becomes leptin-resistant. Then the opposite happens. You get hungrier. Your metabolism slows down. Your liver stops burning fat. You crave sugar and fattening foods.
Since starvation is a type of stress, your body also produces more cortisol (the stress hormone). When this becomes chronic, you become even more leptin-resistant. And the fat-producing symptoms get worse. So whats the good news?
You can reverse this metabolic process by going back to nature!
If youve struggled to stay fit but youve been frustrated by boxed foods, expensive pills and powders, quick fix diets that dont last, or boring, strict, or complicated meals you must get this free e-book we are offering solely to Underground Health Reporter readers.
